About the Starfish
Restaurant Søstjernen has an exciting history. During World War II, the original fish house (kitchen today) was used as a haunt for the resistance movement Søstjernen. It was mainly resistance fighters who were wanted by the Germans, who were parked in the basement until transport (fishing cutter) was possible to Sweden. The Germans had soldiers' barracks just opposite where there is a public car park today. In 1962, Cafe / Cafeteria with the name Søstjernen was established when a small restaurant was opened. The same family took care of the guests until 2005/06 after which the owners Hanne and Poul Erik retired, but no further than about 200 m from Søstjernen, where they live to this day and regularly come by. Hanne and Poul Erik deserve mention, as their seafood buffet, wienerschnitzel, fish soup to name just a few, is known across North Zealand. Some will say Zealand, others all of Denmark, not to mention the Swedes who came in droves. The flag was held high right up until the relinquishment and after a few years without real wind in the sails, the Blom family took over the galley in 2018. We strive to give the Starfish a renewal with respect for how guests remember and appreciate the historic Starfish.
